Corrosion was observed on the outer surfaces of Tubular Air Preheater (TAPH) tubes located in the low-temperature zone of a heat recovery boiler at a power plant. The TAPH unit, designed as either a horizontal or vertical,crossflow-type heat exchanger, utilized its tubes to preheat water using heat recovered from flue gases exiting the boiler.
